Even the name of the area comes from the Native American Legend of Sleeping Bear.

Long before there were roads and highways in Michigan, people and goods were being transported regularly on the ships of the Great Lakes. The Manitou Passage (between the Manitou Islands and the mainland) was a busy corridor for commercial shipping. The location of the Manitou Islands made them ideal for a refueling stop for steamers to pick up wood for their boilers. That was one of the driving forces for early settlement of the islands. Docks were built, and trees were cut to fuel the growing Great Lakes Shipping fleet.
http://www.nps.gov/slbe/historyculture/index.htm

Timothyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16276650677987204530noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-501876128861588138.post-11179172989980182382011-08-02T08:13:00.001-04:002011-08-02T08:17:53.177-04:00Nothing’s finer than Randy’s Diner!Since 1997, Randy's Diner has been serving Traverse City the finest breakfast, lunch and dinner in a relaxed, smoke-free, family atmosphere.
Hours: Monday - Saturday 6am - 8pm
June-July-August - Open until 8:30pm

http://www.randysdiner.com/,Timothyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16276650677987204530noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-501876128861588138.post-83055720832045403042011-08-01T10:46:00.001-04:002011-08-01T12:07:48.117-04:00Michigan Trails & Greenways Alliance
MTGA is a non-profit organization that shall foster and facilitate the creation of an interconnected statewide system of trails and greenways for recreation, health, transportation, economic development and environmental/cultural preservation purposes.

http://www.michigantrails.org/Timothyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16276650677987204530noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-501876128861588138.post-71153275441680724662011-07-22T09:34:00.002-04:002011-07-22T09:45:20.119-04:00Current Local EventsFRIDAY 7/22
Tour de TART: Non-competitive bicycle event
starting at the EuroStop Cafe, TC, and ending at
Marina Park, Suttons Bay, which will include Right
Brain and Short's beer available for purchase
and two food stops along the way.
