H.A.N.D.D.S dog rescue group
H.A.N.D.D.S. to the Rescue is a all volunteer group that is dedicated to saving those dogs that would otherwise be euthanized due to lack of space, medical conditions or severe injuries.
The organizer of the group spoke with 7&4 News about the challenges they're facing and what community members can do to help including volunteering with H.A.N.D.D.S or adopting dogs that need foster homes.

A Traverse City film production company is looking for actors. Kids Creek Production is holding a casting call for its new short film "Xingu".
The company is currently working on two other productions "The Scrapper", which is being filmed in Grand Rapids, and "The Boys of Summer", which will show in Michigan this summer. Company owners say they're looking to fill six roles for their latest short film, "Xingu". Those who get hired won't get paid.

Fire Crews Bracing For A Critical Fire Week
There's still no rain in sight, and with these dangerously dry conditions, fire crews are standing by.
Firefighters across the viewing area are bracing for what could be a very long week.
The US Forest Service says this is the most critical fire week they've seen yet.
Rejected Whiting plan
City commissioners in August voted down a plan that involved Sutherland and developer Gene LaFave renovating the downtown Whiting Hotel with millions in public dollars. Commissioners defeated the measure by a 4 to 2 vote.
The $7.4 million Whiting project was meant to create 27 affordable housing units and 11 low-income apartments around an expanded Cherry Republic store on the ground floor.
Proponents said the project would have created 190 new construction jobs and fit with The Grand Vision land use study that calls for public investment in city and village centers. Opponents questioned the large use of public dollars that eliminated 54 rooms for existing tenants.

Larry Snider has been taking photographs in locations around the world for 30 years. He documents the people and landscape of a particular region, making a personal connection with that place and its culture. In this series, Snider explores the city of Varanasi (also known as Benares), situated on the west bank of the Ganges (Ganga) River in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Varanasi is considered to be the most sacred of India's seven holy cities and it is visited annually by more than 1,000,000 Hindu pilgrims, who believe that bathing in the Ganges remits sins and that dying and being cremated in Varanasi releases a person's soul from the cycle of its transmigrations.

Open for Bids
On November 7 Artcenter TC hosted a benefit concert for ISLAND, featuring Michael Beauchamp and the Barn Roughs. Local artists Lindy Bishop, Terry Dickinson, and Kaye Krapohl painted during the concert, rotating to each other's canvas every three songs. Based on the theme of Community Resilience, together these three artists created beautiful, one-of-a-kind artwork. Each piece is displayed at Artcenter and is available for bid. Open for Bids
On November 7 Artcenter TC hosted a benefit concert for ISLAND, featuring Michael Beauchamp and the Barn Roughs. Local artists Lindy Bishop, Terry Dickinson, and Kaye Krapohl painted during the concert, rotating to each other's canvas every three songs. Based on the theme of Community Resilience, together these three artists created beautiful, one-of-a-kind artwork. Each piece is displayed at Artcenter and is available for bid. Please stop by our gallery at 720 S. Elmwood to view each work.
The 2010 Wine with Artists Series
at the Wine Trail Art Gallery & Madwoman’s Attic in uptown Suttons Bay is looking for spring-fall art and crafts instructors for 2-hours in length course offerings at $45 per session per attendee (up to 3 sessions per course), fees split. The Underground Railroad: Vermont and the Fugitive Slave Jan 15 - Jun 13, 2010
In association with Martin Luther King's birthday and Black History month, the Dennos Museum Center presents an exhibition of 16 block prints by artist Samuel Kerson. The images included in this series are the original designs for the mural: The Underground Railroad Vermont and the Fugitive Slave, painted by Sam Kerson at the Vermont Law School in South Royalton, Vermont in 1995. After the mural was completed the images were published as a limited edition portfolio in book form.
Varanasi: Photographys by Larry Snider Mar 21 - Jun 13, 2010
Larry Snider has been taking photographs in locations around the world for 30 years. He documents the people and landscape of a particular region, making a personal connection with that place and its culture. In this series, Snider explores the city of Varanasi (also known as Benares), situated on the west bank of the Ganges (Ganga) River in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Varanasi is considered to be the most sacred of India's seven holy cities and it is visited annually by more than 1,000,000 Hindu pilgrims, who believe that bathing in the Ganges remits sins and that dying and being cremated in Varanasi releases a person's soul from the cycle of its transmigrations.
